NFD all weekend long

Kicking-off the weekend’s NFD proceedings is a crunch encounter on Friday as log-leading Cape Town All Stars welcome 11th placed Milano United to the Athlone Stadium.

It's been a mixed a bag of results for the five Cape-based teams, with the All Stars supporters having the most to cheer about after securing four wins from four matches.

The same however cannot be said for the rest of the city's NFD supporters, who will be rallying behind their teams as they try to turn their respective fortunes around.

Normally strong starters, the Kinnes themselves in unfamiliar early-season territory, having lost two matches from four. They will be looking to the experience of captain Nasief Morris to get their campaign back on track.

"We've had a different start to the season if compared to previous seasons, with a few questionable refereeing decisions going against us. We remain positive. Although we face a Stars team who are doing well, we will approach the derby encounter like any other game. The coach has been encouraging us to continue to fight as things will change,” former Bafana International Morris told the Daily Voice.

Lining up on the opposite side as skipper is another Cape born central defender in Howie Davids, Igugu Lekapa’s inspirational hard-man.

“Our persistence in working for the team and the consistency has been key to a good start,” said Davids. “I expect Milano to be very physical and to try and intimidate us, but the boys are working hard at training and fully focussed, which is a big positive heading into the derby.”

Saturday’s action sees second from bottom Santos gunning for their first win as they welcome Witbank Spurs to the Athlone Stadium. FC Cape Town will attempt to repeat All Stars’ heroics from last weekend up in the Limpopo when they face Black Leopards away from home.

Vasco Da Gama wrap up the weekend's action on Sunday when they host Thanda Royal Zulu at Parow Park. All the matches kick off at 3pm.
