Cape teams chase improved performances

The NFD action returns after a week-long FIFA break, with the Cape-based sides chasing improved performances as they find themselves at the wrong end of the promotion seeking table.

Pressure will surely be on the Mother City’s lowest rank side Santos, currently second from bottom and still chasing that elusive first win of the season, as they face ninth-placed Milano United in Sunday's derby encounter.

The Peoples Team should however feel more than comfortable with Milano’s decision to move their home fixture to Athlone Stadium.

There are also some positives to be taken from the recent derby trend, which has seen the lower ranked side walking away with either a draw or victory. Additionally, Santos have also been boosted with the arrival of some new faces this week, including former Milano striker Brent Adonis, Shafiek Arendse, Issouf Paro (Burkina Faso) and Thabane Ntshangase (Carara Kicks).

Making his return to a place he once called home is former Santos attacker Gregory Roelf, now in the colours of Eezy My Kinnes as he focuses on nothing less than three points.

"Emotions heading into a Cape Derby are always high and you just have to stay focussed and not get carried away. I have nothing to prove against Santos but I would love to start or come on from the bench and collect the three points for Milano. I feel that it's still early days, and it we have what it takes to go all the way,” Roelf tells the Daily Voice.

Meanwhile in Saturday’s action, Cape Town All Stars look to get back to winning ways as they host Highlands Park at the Athlone Stadium. FC Cape Town welcome AmaZulu to the NNK Rugby Stadium.

In the only away match of the weekend, Vasco Da Gama travel to the Free State to take on African Warriors on Sunday. All matches kick-off at 3.30pm.
